| OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 24.09.2002. Vario-Tessar is a new zoom lens concept by Carl Zeiss. It is optimised for the demands of very compact, convenient to use photo cameras, both analog and digital. Short length, small diameter and short travel for zoom and focusing all contribute to this goal. The Vario-Tessar produces top quality images that are brilliant and sharp, offer good contrast and well controlled distortion. The Vario-Tessar lens concept enables very compact camera bodies with pleasing design and a quick autofocus system. The Vario-Tessar is a modern development in the Zeiss Tessar family of lenses, which was introduced 100 years ago in 1902 and became world famous as „the eagle eye of your camera“. Many photo historians consider the Zeiss Tessar the most successful camera lens design ever. More than 150 million lenses based on the Tessar design were manufactured to date. The first camera with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* 4.5-8/28-70 is the the Yashica T-zoom.
